Fishing was good and sometimes hazardous in the busy waters

on the Grand Banks  

These areas are relatively shallow, ranging from 80 to

300 feet in depth.

The cold Labrador Current mixes with the warm waters of the Gulf Stream off Newfoundland on the

North American continental shelf here.
